Formatting a disk

  1. Check /var/adm/messages for device id, disk type, size, etc.

  2. Enter format device_id e.g. format sd2

  3. at prompt format> type

  4. Select type or select other and enter appropriate info (if it doesn't appear as type, can enter details in /etc/format.dat and it will appear in future)

  5. To prompt format> partition

  6. change partition details as required (N.B. replying print to prompt gives current details)

  7. when complete, at prompt partition> label

  8. prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/device to check

  9. newfs /dev/rdsk/device
