Booting into maintenance mode

If you have problems booting, you can try booting into maintenance mode

hpux -lm (;0)/safe/vmunix

In maintenance mode, LVM is not active. It is intended to be used to fix problems or make changes to the LVM subsystem. HP advise against booting into multi user level from maintenance mode as it can corrupt the root filesystem.

If you can boot into maintenance mode but can't boot normally, this indicates a problem with LVM , for instance, the lvlnboot may have become corrupted, possibly due to a corrupt LIF.
